ARIYALUR
GANGAIKONDACHOLAPURAM TEMPLE
Ariyalur is best known for the Gangaikondacholisvarar temple in Gangaikondacholapuram, the biggest temple constructed during the reign of Rajendra–I in Ariyalur region. Following the conquest of the Gangetic plains in A.D. 1023 Rajendra–I built a great city called Gangaikondacholapuram and a Siva temple Gangaikondacholisvarar and a lake Chola Gangam in commemoration of his victory. The place, the temple and the lake (Chola Gangam) are the living embodiments of the heroism of the Tamils who unfurled the Chola‘s Tiger flag on the banks of the River Ganges.
VETTAKUDI – KARAIVETTI BIRD SANCTUARY
The Karaivetti Birds Sanctuary with an area of 4.537 squared km has been notified under section 18(1) of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 as per Government Order No.219 E&F (FR.VI) Dept dt. 10.06.1997. The sanctuary is basically an irrigation tank that receives water from the Mettur dam from September onwards which is supplemented by the northeast monsoons from October till January. The sanctuary is one of the most important fresh water feeding ground for migratory water birds in the state of Tamil Nadu.
CEMENT CITY OF TAMILNADU
Ariyalur is a town and district headquarterse of ariyalur district in the south indian state of tamilnadu and is rich in limestone, surrounded with seven cement factories and two sugar factories.
Big industrial houses like Birlas (UltraTech Cement), India Cements, Dalmia Cement, Madras Cement have their cement units here. Tamil Nadu government’s TANCEM factory is in Ariyalur and is the first factory to establish the cement production in Ariyalur.

Ariyalur Government Hospital was started on 26.07.1960 with the vision to cater to the needs of people of Cement City of Tamilnadu. This Government Institution was started to carter the needs of rural people and to provide quality care to the people. Government Medical College and Hospital was started in 12.06.2020. This College plans to nurture the meritorious students to achieve their dreams. 150 students are taken every year for MBBS course. This Medical College is affiliated to TamilNadu Dr.M.G.R Medical University, Guindy, Chennai.
