ABOUT US

                 The Department of Anaesthesiology at Government Medical College, Ariyalur is dedicated to provide safe and effective services of the highest standard and quality. We work as a team with various specialities of our hospital including surgical specialities, emergency department and intensive care units and serve as the backbone of our hospital.

                The Department is located in the fifth floor of the medical college hospital. We run a pre anaesthesia checkup clinic in the OPD block on daily basis from Monday to Saturday. We also run pain clinic twice weekly (Monday and Thursday) adjacent to our preanaesthesia checkup clinic.

          We have nine major operation theatres ( including three modular OTs) catering various surgical specialities like General Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology and Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

     Our mission is to provide safe, compassionate and comprehensive health care to the patients before, during and after surgery. Apart from clinical services, to impart basic knowledge about the Speciality anaesthesiology among the undergraduate students through skill based learning.

Round the clock Emergency services 24*7 in emergency OT, casualty, emergency wards and also intensive care units.

  1. Pre anaesthesia check up – dedicated to evaluate for anesthetic fitness and preoperative preparation of the patients prior to surgery.
  • Clinical anaesthesia – We cater various surgical specialities providing anaesthetic care ( Regional Anaesthesia, General Anaesthesia and Monitored Anaesthesia Care) to adult, pediatric and geriatric patients. All the elective and emergency surgeries are done in nine major operation theatres. Services include intraoperative care, smooth recovery, post operative care and management of postoperative pain.
  • Intensive care units – for difficult airway management, ventilator management and respiratory care, difficult venous access and resuscitative services.
  • Pain clinic – Caters to acute and chronic pain relief including palliative care to the cancer patients.

COURSES

  1. Under Graduate MBBS students – Medical undergraduate training program include lectures and vertical integration program, internship training includes operating room basics and hands on training in basic procedures in anaesthesia including iv cannulation, spinal anaesthesia and intubation.
  • Certificate course for Anaesthesia Technology – started in December 2022, with 10 students per year. Training includes regular lectures and hands on training for preparation of operating room for various types of surgeries.

Basic Life support training is offered to first MBBS students during the foundation course, for CRMIs, paramedical staff and also non medical hospital staff.
